Ret. Major Brian Peacock

Ret. Major Brian Peacock was born on March 11, 1952 to his parents, Roy and Leah Peacock in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. Brian is the oldest of 7 siblings. He was raised on a farm and learned valuable life lessons from his family. And their work ethic. Brian attended Newberry high school. Then Brian volunteered for the United States Marine Corps in the "buddy program." Brian did his boot camp at Marine Corps Recruit Depot at San Diego, Ca. and then continued on to Infantry Training at Camp Pendelton, CA.

Brian was then "volunteered" to Force Recon School, also at Camp Pendelton and from there deployed to the Vietnam War and served with the 2nd Battalion 5th Marines and 2nd Battalion 1st Marines, 1st Marine Division.

Brian married Mary Rose Galloway in 1993 and together they raised 3 children. Brian and his family lived in Chatham Michigan where he was employed as a Corrections Officer at a Michigan State prison. While serving his community as a Correction Officer, Brian went back to school at Lake Superior State University and received an Associates Degree in Criminal Justice.

In 1974, Brian joined the Army National Guard in Coldwater Michigan. Brian deployed with his unit to numerous exercises CONUS and OCONUS. Brian did his Officer Basic Course at Aberdeen Proving Grounds and his Advanced Officer Training at Ft Eustis, Virginia. Brian eventually retired from service to our country as a Major and from serving his state and community for over 26 years in the Michigan Department of Corrections.

Brian has continued to serve the State of Michigan and his community as a member of the American Legion for over 40 years. He has been an active member of the Jonesville American Legion Post 195, currently serving as the 1st Vice Commander. Brian notably exhibits service before self. He regularly visits the veterans at the Medical Care Facility in Hillsdale. Additionally, Brian helps with veteran transports to appointments at VA hospitals. Brian is a member of the Post 195 American Legion Honor Guard, participating in many veteran funerals, parades and various ceremonies. Brian continues to volunteer his time for many American Legion activities including but not limited to US12 Yard Sale, Christmas Packages for the Troops, Pumpkin Sales, Scrap Metal Drives and the annual Post 195 raffle held at the Hillsdale County Fair.

Brian enjoys many hobbies including maintaining his property, making maple syrup, camping and riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle. Brian loves to spend these days with his family and friends.

One of Brian's favorite memories during his military time is when he received a speeding ticket going into Da Nang, RVN. He said he came around the corner and the MP's had a speed trap set up. He was ticketed and was told by the MP to give his ticket to his supervisor. As he drove away, he handed the ticket to his supervisor who was riding with him. The supervisor tore up the ticket and threw it out the window.
